Austin American-Statesman Reporter Gets Hands-on Experience with the Vectra 3D!

Friday, November 16th, 2012

Recently, well-loved Austin American-Statesman reporter Omar L. Gallaga interviewed Dr. Jennifer Walden about her latest technological addition to her West Lake Hills-area plastic surgery practice, the Vectra 3D.

During the interview, Dr. Walden described the Vectra 3D which she has been using since September, and even gave Gallaga a first-hand experience with the machine.

The machine works by taking multiple photos of the desired area – whether it be the face, upper or lower body – which are then digitally simulated on the computer screen, allowing Dr. Walden to modify the patients appearance. The machine is useful to both plastic surgeons and patients, because the 3D image is a more accurate analysis of the anatomy, but also because it gives patients an idea of what to expect before the first incision is ever made.

After Gallaga posed in front of the machine and his picture was digitalized on the computer screen, Dr. Walden carefully modified the tip of his nose, in what she described was a ‘conservative nose job.’ Using the Vectra system, Dr. Walden was able to rotate the 3D model of Gallaga’s face, and even produce side-by-side frontal and profile views of the changes made with the 3D system.

Plastic Surgery to Stop Bullying

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Can plastic surgery really put an end to bullying? Dr. Jennifer Walden and Austin Child Guidance Center’s Seanna Crosbie discuss the topic affecting many children and teens on Austin’s FOX 7 Morning Show.

The past decade has shown a 30 percent increase in teenage plastic surgery. Dr. Jennifer Walden on Fox 7 in Austin, Texas said the most popular procedures for children and teenagers are otoplasty, which is pinning of prominent ears, rhinoplasty for a hooked or crooked nose, as well as breast reduction for males who have breast enlargement during their teenage years, all of which are good indications for a cosmetic procedure to help with distress and depression linked to bullying.

Seanna Crosbie said children may be teased for a variety of reasons but commonly is for their appearance. Crosbie said bullying is not only an issue with the victim, but also with the perpetrator as well as how the community and schools manage bullying. Research shows that the best way to address bullying is to create more supervision in schools, train teachers how to address bullying and to train bystanders how to intervene if bullying does occur.

But, is plastic surgery really an effective way to get through bullying? Dr. Walden said cosmetic procedures are a personal decision among a mature teenager, a clinical psychologist and the child’s parent. She warns that surgery may not alleviate all bullying, however it can effectively cause the child to be more self-confident and learn how to positively handle bullying. Dr. Walden said the improvement in self-esteem that a two-hour surgical procedure makes can be life-changing for children and teenagers who may obsess over a physical defect they are being teased for.

With any surgical procedure, there are the rare yet inherent risks associated with anesthesia, however as long as the child is fit and healthy and has been cleared for surgery by their pediatrician, complications are relatively rare. Dr. Walden urges to always consult a board certified plastic surgeon and make sure any procedure is being performed in an accredited facility if you do choose plastic surgery.

Leo “Nose” How To Pick Em’

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

I have loved Blake Lively ever since I saw her in the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie. She is not only drop-dead gorgeous, but also charming and adorable.

And it seems her career is only getting hotter. Blake topped the week’s ‘most searched celebrities’, beating out Kim Kardashian, and I suspect her amazing looks, and perhaps her rumored new beau Leo, have something to do with this.

Since Blake seems to be everywhere these days, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and talk about how her career and looks have changed since her arrival in hollywood.

While Blake was already gorgeous before, I think that the results of the rhinoplasty surgery that she had done at some time between finishing work on the first Sisterhood movie and beginning work on Gossip Girl helped in taking her looks and career to the next level.

Prior to surgery, Blake’s nose was slightly bulbous, giving her face more of a cute appearance. Post surgery Blake’s nose is much more refined and allows her to achieve the sophisticated look that, along with her fashion sense, she has become so famous for.

Here is Blake looking adorable in a photo from her Sisterhood days:

Compare that with a more recent photo:

Blake’s rhinoplasty is a great example of the ways a slight change in facial structure can make for a total transformation. Without changing too much about herself, she has gone from girl next door to the face of Chanel. Simply stunning!!! I look forward to what is to come from this screen siren.

To all the women in search of the “RIGHT” Plastic Surgeon…

It was within 5 minutes of meeting Dr. Walden and Nurse Sarah that I knew I was in the right place and felt an immediate connection.

Dr. Walden’s compassion and concerns were truly special. Her ability to listen to my needs and understand what I was looking for was indescribable. Her staff coordinator Sarah was simply amazing. Her kindness and sureness was extremely soothing and heartwarming. Tracy was always welcoming, kind spirited and bubbly.

As for the medical facility at Lenox Hill Hospital where the surgery was performed, it was beyond my expectations, clean and very professional.

With all of that said, and to ALL the women reading this…LOOK NO FURTHER!!! I feel amazing and am extremely happy with “OUR” result.

I would highly recommend Dr. Jennifer Walden and her staff without any reservations.

Forever grateful————AnnaMaria

Today we are featuring a review posted on the web after a rhinoplasty procedure.

VERY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE
by carrie717 at Citysearch

Dr Walden performed rhinoplasty for me in 2009. I was very nervous about the whole experience and had specific requests about how I wanted my new nose to look - not a typical skinny nose, just a smaller version of what I had. She and her staff were very professional and my new nose is absolutely perfect. I really couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I’m very happy and highly recommend.

* Pros: Clean, professional
