About Marble Falls
Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country on the Colorado River, it is about 47 miles northwest of Austin and 85 miles north of San Antonio, in the middle of the Highland Lakes area, the largest chain of lakes in Texas. Before the dam was built to form Lake Marble Falls on the Colorado River, there were falls of marble, giving the name Marble Falls to the City. The falls are now under water and only visible on those rare occasions.
Marble Falls served as the principal commercial center for numerous subdivisions and resorts that were built along the lakes after the 1960s. As more people moved to the area to take advantage of lakeside subdivisions, the population and the supporting commercial center grew accordingly, an estimated 4,007 residents and 218 businesses in 1990. By 2000 the population reached 4,959 with 817 businesses.
Today, it is the natural setting of lakes and hills that makes the Marble Falls / Lake LBJ area one of the most attractive and popular tourist and retirement destinations in all of Texas.
