Myer’s Cocktail
Even if you’ve never heard of IV therapy, you’ve probably heard of the Myers’ Cocktail. This was the brainchild of Baltimore physician John Myers, who in the 1960s began using intravenous injections of nutrients to treat many chronic conditions. Myers’ and a later protégé Alan Gaby have treated thousands of patients with the Myers’ Cocktail.
Many conditions have responded well to the Cocktail: asthma, migraine headaches, fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, fibromyalgia, acute muscle spasms, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, and seasonal allergies. Magnesium is a key ingredient because it promotes relaxation of both blood vessels and skeletal muscle, leading to the calming of muscle spasms. Magnesium reduces the frequency of migraines and other headaches, and it improves sleep patterns.
B complex vitamins have both energy production and anti-aging roles. For instance, vitamin B1 (thiamine) protects the immune system, while vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is an important antioxidant necessary for red blood cell production.
Vitamin C helps prevent infections and promotes healthy immune function. It is a strong antioxidant, protecting the cells from free radical damage. Vitamin C has been proven to shorten the duration of viruses and infections. It is also required for the body to build collagen, the skin’s support protein.
Vitamin B12 helps the body convert carbohydrates to glucose, delivering energy and decreasing fatigue. It assists in the process of making new cells and breaking down fatty and amino acids.
