JUVÉDERM® Ultra / Ultra Plus and Voluma Soft Tissue Fillers
Dermal fillers are FDA-approved and safe for use by most patients. Many of the fillers are made from substances found naturally in the body, or synthetically made to mimic natural substances or stimulate collagen production. These fillers are injected directly into the skin of the targeted area to restore volume and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Walden offers patients several different dermal-filler options in order to provide the best possible results for their individual needs.
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel Filler
JUVÉDERM® filler is an FDA-approved smooth-consistency gel capable of restoring volume to the skin while smoothing away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. This filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that adds volume and hydration. But unlike other hyaluronic acid fillers, which usually have granular consistencies, JUVÉDERM® filler is easily injected into the skin and produces immediate, natural-looking results.
Patients can achieve a fuller, younger appearance while still maintaining the natural features that define who they are. JUVÉDERM® filler is most effective in reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth on both sides of the face.
JUVÉDERM® injections take about 15 minutes to administer in Dr. Walden’s office; there is no need for anesthesia. Dr. Walden or her nurse injector may choose to apply a topical or injectable anesthetic to numb the treatment area and reduce the risk of any potential discomfort. The injection is then administered under the skin in the targeted area to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds. After the injection, Dr. Walden may gently massage the treated areas.
Once treatment is completed, patients can return to their regular activities right away, with virtually no downtime. For the first 24 hours after treatment, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages to reduce the risk of complications after treatment. Some patients may experience mild side effects such as redness, swelling or itching, but these usually go away on their own after a short time.
The results of JUVÉDERM® injections are visible immediately after the procedure, and will continue to improve over the next few days as any swelling and bruising subside. Results are expected to last six to nine months but, in many cases, last up to year, the only hyaluronic acid filler to provide results that last that long.
JUVEDERM Voluma soft tissue filler is a recently FDA- approved product made of a longer lasting hyaluronic acid that can be used to produce cheekbone enhancement for very nice and long lasting results (around 18 months).
