Dr. Jennifer Walden is proud to offer ThermiAesthetics™ to treat a variety of aesthetic soft tissue and nerve conditions by applying the “Science of Heat” using temperature as a clinical end point. ThermiAesthetics™ uses the ThermiRF™ device in order to deliver temperature controlled radio frequency to the targeted area. Three of the procedures that can be performed are ThermiTight™, ThermiRase™ and ThermiSmooth™.
ThermiTight™ is the name of a peer-reviewed protocol* described as “thermistor-controlled subdermal skin tightening.” The ThermiRF™ system is used along with a tiny SmartTip™ thermistor probe, which is inserted under the skin of the lower face and neck to heat subdermal tissues to a user selected specific temperature.
How ThermiTight™ Works
After a small volume of anesthetic solution is injected into the area to be treated, the tiny ThermiRF™ SmartTip™ thermistor probe is inserted under the skin. Dr. Walden applies gentle movements to heat up the tissues to the desired level. Skin safety is monitored with Thermal Image Guidance™. Most procedures last less than one hour. After the procedure, a gentle wrap is applied and the patient may resume normal activities the next day. This procedure can be performed along the neck and submental (under the chin) area to tighten loose skin and get rid of small pockets of fat. If you have a larger area of fat under the chin and along the jawline, Dr. Walden might recommend combining the ThermiTight RF procedure with a liposuction procedure of the neck at the same time. ThermiRase™ is a micro-invasive procedure based on a peer reviewed protocol* to disable the nerves which control the muscles responsible for glabella frown lines. This procedure applies radio frequency energy to selected nerves. In a recent study, the effect lasted more than one year in almost 80% of the subjects.
How ThermiRase™ Works
First, Dr. Walden will map the nerves using an external nerve stimulator. This will help him to know where to create the lesions during the procedure.
Next, Dr. Walden insert the ThermiRF SmartTip™ probe with Injector Port™ under the skin and begin to create lesions along the mapped nerve pathway.
Lesioning is done in three steps:
- Stimulate (locate the nerve)
- Inject a drop of local anesthesia
- Treat – apply heat for about 1 minute
This process is repeated several times until the patient is unable to make a frown.
ThermiSmooth™ is performed using a specially designed thermistor regulated hand piece, which is supplied with the ThermiRF™ system. ThermiTouch delivers precise heating to the skin’s surface. ThermiSmooth treatments are gentle and patients often say it feels like receiving a warm massage. ThermiSmooth is usually done in the periorbital area (around the eyes) including the brow area for a bit of a brow lift as well as the upper and lower lids for a nonsurgical lift. Also, a larger applicator may be applied for other areas of the upper face such as festoons and cheeks to help tighten and lift by thermal radiofrequency energy. Dr. Walden is the first and only practice in Austin to offer ThermiSmooth treatments.
How ThermiSmooth™ Works
After applying a small amount of coupling gel, the ThermiSmooth™ hand piece is applied to the skin’s surface. The ThermiRF™ system is set to a specific target temperature (i.e.., 42°C – 45°C). The hand piece is gently moved in a sweeping or circular fashion while gradually heating up the skin surface. As the skin’s temperature rises to the targeted temperature, the ThermiRF computer automatically adjusts the energy output to ensure precision of heating. A small zone is treated for about 5 minutes to achieve the goal of sustained heating to the target tissues. Treatments are repeated several times to achieve the desired cosmetic result.
