What’s the difference between a Brazilian butt lift and augmentation?
A Brazilian butt lift is a form of butt augmentation, but it differs dramatically from augmentation with implants. In a Brazilian butt lift, a patient’s own fat is used for the augmentation. In implant augmentation, implants are surgically placed. In implant augmentation, the results are permanent, but sometimes implants can move and require revision surgery. The consensus seems to be that Brazilian butt lift augmentation delivers more natural looking results. Plus, because Dr. Walden is using your own fat for the procedure, there is the added bonus of contouring or making you thinner where the fat is harvested.
Brazilian butt lift procedure
With the patient under general anesthesia, Dr. Walden begins the procedure with liposuction, harvesting fat from an unwanted area — the lower back, waist, flanks (love handles), thighs, and stomach. Small incisions are made. Local anesthesia is infused first, and a thin cannula is inserted and moved back and forth to loosen the fat pockets in the area. The cannula then suctions out the fat.
Next, the fat and serum that were suctioned out are processed to separate the fat. The goal here is to purify the fat, so that there will be minimal re-absorption when the graft is reintroduced to the body.
Dr. Walden then takes the purified fat and re-injects it back into the buttocks throug small injections around your buttocks. She does this at a variety of depths to ensure even augmentation. Special attention is given to the upper buttocks so that the entire bottom looks younger and naturally lifted.
How long do results take?
Results are immediately visible, but they keep improving with time because it takes some time for the fat to “take.” It can take a full year before a patient’s full results are visible. Over time, some of the initial volume from your fat grafting procedure will diminish. On average, patients retain 60 to 80% of the transferred fat, with the body absorbing the rest.
