Glutathione: What Is It and Why Does the Body Need It?

IV Hydration Therapy Austin TXIn our IV Hydration center in Austin, patients can choose from several IV drips and injectables to boost health and wellness. As popular as IV therapy has become in recent years, even those who routinely obtain treatment don’t always understand the ins-and-outs of the various ingredients in a given solution. Here, we want to spotlight glutathione, the master antioxidant.

You may have never even heard of glutathione before. This essential antioxidant is well-known in the health industry for its disease-fighting capabilities. The tiny molecule is so reputable in science that it has been included in cancer research studies to observe how it behaves during toxic treatments.

What Actually is Glutathione and What Does It Do?

It isn’t enough to portray glutathione only as a powerful antioxidant. The molecule includes both proteins and amino acids, including glutamine, cysteine, and glycine. It is an antioxidant that has the power to regenerate itself in the liver, which is why it is often referred to as a master antioxidant, a molecule that fights the free radicals that act as triggers for numerous health conditions.

An important note about glutathione is that, though the body needs it, makes it, and utilizes is judiciously, it is a molecule that cannot survive the internal environment. If we were to consume glutathione, the molecule would be broken up by stomach acid. This is one of the reasons why IV delivery is so beneficial.

By optimizing the body with glutathione (alongside other vital nutrients), we promote anti-inflammatory functions. By reducing systemic inflammation, glutathione IV therapy is believed to slow the aging process. The antioxidant also supports the growth of mitochondria, the energetic aspect of every cell in the body. Glutathione has demonstrated the ability to increase a person’s strength and endurance, speed up metabolism, decrease recovery time, and reduce damage to injured bones.

We are so pleased to bring IV therapy to adults in Austin! To learn more about our various IV drips and injections, schedule a consultation at 512.328.4100.
