We a so proud of runner up Women of the Year, our very own Dr. Jennifer Walden! During a 10-week period, Dr. Walden raised money to help spearhead research for blood cancer. Her contributions, along with the other 13 fundraisers, helped raise a total of $969,227 for blood cancer research, patients, and outreach programs. This fundraising amount beat last years record of $622,172. The final event of the 10 week period was held at AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraising campaign always honors a local boy and girl who have beat blood cancer. This year’s girl of the year was Karen Andrade, 7. Karen was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2012 but is now in remission. Karen was in attendance at the final event. Â
Overall, the event and fundraising campaign was a great success. Regardless of what titles were won, almost a million dollars was raised to fund cures for leukemia and lymphoma. We are so proud of Dr. Walden for being a part of this record breaking fundraiser event!
