Introduced as one of the best in the business, Dr. Walden appeared on KEYE news to show some of the new technology transforming and improving cosmetic surgery.
The Peak Plasma Blade by Medtronic was the first new device Dr. Walden spoke about during the segment. The Plasma blade is used for both cutting and cauterizing, but this new tool has many benefits. Medtronic’s device helps clear surgical margins to clearly see tissue, and cuts down both bleeding and drainage. The final benefit of the blade is the cost reduction, the plasma blade allows procedure time to be cut down so it is less expensive for both the patient and the surgeon.
Zip Line, a closure device was the next tool we were introduced to. The Zip Line device takes the place of staples or sutures, in procedures which require a long incision. While the Zip Line would not used for every case, Dr. Walden says it works beautifully for procedures such as a tummy tuck or breast reduction. The adjustable tension on the closure device makes things go faster when closing in surgery, it can also help healing and closure scars.
While Dr. Walden is very enthusiastic about the new technologies she was clear to emphasis that it is the person behind the blade that makes the difference. “Always go to a board certified plastic surgeon, preferably one that is foremost organization like the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic surgery, pick your surgeon right”.
Dr. Walden’s advice is to check with the state medical board and SmartBeautyGuide.com. Smart Beauty Guide is a website by their professional organization that gives information on how to find the right surgeon, expenses for the procedure, and information on procedures such as the average down time and recovery time.
